North Dublin Eagles 40 - 10 Athboy.

On the opening day of the new look Carnegie Leinster league the North Dublin Eagles soared into their campaign with a 40 - 10 win over newcomers Athboy in a sun soaked ALSSA on Saturday 8th May.With Chris McDonald reeling back the years with some inspiring breaks the Eagles showed their class and experience to overcome a plucky Athboy side. The home side opened the scoring on 2 minutes with a typical bustling Jenko Jenkinson try in the corner. This was converted as indeed were 6 of the 7 Eagles trys. This was followed by the first of a Robert "Gish" Gilensenan brace on 16 minutes. Athboy showed their fighting qualities with an unconverted try 5 minutes later but this was cancelled out 5 minutes after with the sight of Mick Fitzmaurice dancing through the visitors defense to touch down under the posts. leaving the half time score Eagles 18 Athboy 4.

The second half saw Athboy attack a resolute Eagles defense but a lightning break saw Marcus Kelly go over to open the second period scoring. Robert Gilsensenan then went over for his second and, after a wonderful Chris McDonald break, Ben Morriarity went over for the Eagles 5th score of the game. With 10 minutes to go Athboy scored their second, but 3 minutes later veteran Eagles stalwart Gary Brady scored the final try to leave the Eagles flying high. Referee Andy Adams final whistle came soon after giving some relief to the beleaguered Athboy XIII.
